Ipod classic

I have a 160gb ipod Classic and it's being a dick. Haven't used it for a few years, so could be that the battery is toast, but after getting a new cable I've got it charged up. It shows up in Windows as a drive, but iTunes failes to see it at all. I also get random USB bing bongs as if it's being unplugged/replugged on a fairly random basis.
I've tried in disk mode and no joy, run the self tests and no errors showing up. Anything else I can try?

Can Winamp see it? I've always had more success with that than iTunes.

I've used MediaMonkey a few times to rebuild fucked iPod databases without wiping.

Is win amp still a thing? I'll give it (and media monkey a go). Think the db is fine, it still plays what's already on it just fine but I'd like to update my library a bit.

It still exists on my PC. Just for synching the iPod.
Apparantly it whips the llama's ass.

I thought the cardinal rule of IT is to reinstall Windows.

That's only if turning it off and back on again doesn't work.

Both those things are perennial solutions from blackberry - substituting Windows for BB OS o'course.
We've got a person a work with an intermittent network connection on their BB. The advice from our network provider's support is to reinstall the OS. Twice over. They've given us 3 different phones now and don't seem to consider that the problem could be with the SIM/network.
