Anyone got/used/heard of PC Specialist laptops?
They seem to be very competitive on price, and actually allow you to specify exactly what you want.

I've got one of their desktop machines. Was pretty satisfied all in all, it's been reliable. Only slight annoyance was that it took about a month from order to arrival I think, and in that time the model up graphics card had come down to the price I'd paid for the one I got, but they stick you to what you ordered and won't budge.
Anyway, that was all about three years ago or more, I've since upgraded the graphics card (after a couple of years, to something much better even though second hand) and it's still going strong. Apparently Core2Duo PCs are well old now! It still seems to play games pretty well.

Cool - they seem to have been picking up awards for their desktops, and they laptops seem to be highly regarded peice/performance wise, if not on aesthetics. As Samsung have renamed all their models and doubled the prices I'm having to look further afield for a new laptop. Pretty much the only thing in my budget with similar graphics to what I had is the PC Specialist stuff - and if I can wangle a matt ips full hd panel then definitely onto a winner I reckon.

Oh, and most online seem to reckon delivery is about 2 weeks for custom built. Presumably the stock configurations on eBay er and dabs would be quicker.

They are! I've got one in mine, an E8400, and that's from April 2008.
Still haven't felt the need to replace it, and this is the longest I've ever had a PC. I've wanted to, but never been able to justify it, as (as you say) it still handles most games well. Starcraft 2 needed an upgraded graphics card, but since then I've played Skyrim, Tomb Raider, Dishonored and others, with no problems.
