Yeah, I don't know. That's what I thought at first but then they're so emphatic about saying: No, we're not giving it away for free.
I can't see what legal issues there could be though. Maybe this is the only way they could get it past (or bypass) their board/shareholders.

Or maybe they really don't want to give it away but don't want to fuck over paying customers and this is the route which is cheapest since it requires no contact, support etc.

Could be. I'd definitely install this if I was doing a fresh install or something. Less hassle than pirating/cracking and does as much as cs5 (that I care about) while running better.

I've not known Adobe to be particularly bothered about fucking over paying customers.
That said, although I (legally) have CS5, which is shit, I (legally) also have CS2. So I might just download this to save the aggro of activation.

Shit, I don't think it will even run on 10.8.2!

I have CS5.1 installed. I've wanted to do some really simple things with it recently and it takes forever to open up for a 2 minute mess around. I only have that and Paint so maybe I should get something in between.

Paint.NET
is pretty cool.
Or GIMP if you're feeling brave.

I might give Paint.NET a try. Not feeling brave enough for GIMP right now.
