Fucking imperial.

Currently arranging to buy some stuff at work from a Canadian supplier and they sell in 50 lb bags rather than the universal 25 kg bag. Idiots.

I thought Canada was fairly metric, but I guess their biggest market is the USA. Fucking USAians.

50 lbs is easier to lift. Yeah we're weak, and lazy.

I've been trying to source a decent, accurate torque wrench for a bike, and most of the US variants only give torques in ft.lb whereas all bike parts here specify torques in Nm (the way it should be). Fortunately, the Italians do do metric.

I had to buy one in an emergency and it's marked in kg.f and inch pounds. Fucking annoying.

Mostly but not exclusively. For example at the supermarket they give price per pound as well as per kilo for meat.

It took me about 5 years to learn to think in kilometers and centigrade, but I still hate centimeters. Millimeters are cool though. I also like 500 milliliter cans.

This kind of thing really pisses me off. Everyone knows what an inch looks like, roughly how far a mile is, how tall 6ft* is etc, but all that is far too easy so 'they' have to go and invent a system that, on the surface, looks simple. Oh look, it's all divisible / multipliable by 10 - so fucking what??? I can do math I don't need to use my fingers. How the fuck far is a kilometre? no-body alive has the slightest clue, not really, oh they can measure it all right, but visualise it? Not the slightest chance is a million years.

Goddam fuckin waste of time bastardised Metric system!

*does anyone ever say anything like "I am 1.whateverthefuckM tall"?  do they fuck. nobody. nowhere. ever.

Really? C'mon Jon - the only reason you can visualise a mile is because that's what you brought up with. I can work with both - primarily because running races tend to be measured in both (We have 5km, 10km, 10 mile, 13 mile etc) and I can visualise them just fine.

Again, the only reason people state their height in Feet and Inches is convention. I know I'm around 185cm tall and I weight about 90kg.

In fact, actually, I do nearly all my weights in metric because I can't fathom imperial at all.

Metric makes sense :)

I'm 1,795mm tall. I weigh around 855 Newtons.  Lots of people can visualise a kilometre, or a mile. I can kind of do both, but not with any real accuracy.

What they said really.

Every country where metric has been widespread in all ways for years, they're the people who can easily visualise all these measurements easily.

Also, 188 cm and 90 kg this morning.

I went fully metric for my weight due to TKD since all weight groups are based on kg. I only now have a vague idea of what I weigh in stones/pounds.

And if you work in science/engineering....

Yes, I do. I am 5'11" and 1.8m tall. I am 50. I prefer metric to imperial (OK, living on the continent I don't really have a choice).

Where metric really wins out is in fractions: 5.6cm, or 56mm, makes sense but 2⅜"? Screw that!

Oh, and temperatures. I'm even getting used to hot weather in Celcius, but when I was in the US during Winter and they were quoting temperatures in minus Fahrenheit, I was all 'W.T.F?' :?

I'd forgotten temperature because I only work in Celsius. I have no idea whatsoever about Fahrenheit - I couldn't even take a guess at some comparisons.

Me either. Never really made any attempt to understand Fahrenheit properly. I'd only compare it to Celsius to actually understand anyway.

I used to know that 70s-80sF was hot. But I forget how hot. And 32F is 0C. But 5F? I know it's bloody cold, but meaningless otherwise.

Now I know what upper 20sC and 0-5C mean. It's easy.
