Meant to post this a cuppla days ago and a bit. What a great musician. So many records where I'd think, who's that brilliant bassist, or who's playing that amazing tuba, or how come there's a whole Cuban dance band here? Check the cover and the answer would be Herbie Flowers. Always managed to make me smile and lift my spirits a bit from Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side to Nilsonn's Jump into the Fire. I could almost forgive him for writing Clive Dunn's Grandad.

By all accounts in bass playing circles, he seems to have been a very nice guy, still playing out and about in his local area until fairly recently, and always happy to chat.
