I am tempted to try one of the Logitech Lightspeed mice. Apparently they can achieve 1ms latency, which I'm guessing it low enough to not notice.

Buy blimey, the 703 and 903 are expensive. I think I might just stick with wires. Or buy one of every wireless mouse Amazon sells and see if any one of them is good enough

Is it for gaming or just everyday stuff?

I'm also left-handed for most things, but since I started using PC's (original iMacs actually) in a shared (school) environment, I threw in the towel early and use the mouse right-handed. I'd say I've become almost ambidextrous after ~28-years, except I stick to left handed for writing/drawing/slicing/scissoring/sawing and... well, um never mind  :-$. I do use my wacom pen-tablet left-handed, sometimes just to relieve CTS-like symptoms in my right wrist.

Mainly desktop stuff, but the occasional gaming too. The mouse I sent back annoyed me too much on the desktop to even try gaming.

The only mice I really, really hate are Apple's. Haven't really tried anything out of ordinary generic laser mouse wired/not.

I haven't tried any of Apple's mouses. I've got a MX518 for my desktop which is perfectly fine (probably good) (apart from occasional sticky left button and wheel). And some cheapy wired ones in work which are fine (except for no side buttons :'( )

Apple's keyboards and mice are notoriously sucky, and deservedly so.

My wireless mouse cost 6 quid in Aldi. One AA battery lasts about 4 months. I've never noticed any lag with any mouse, wireless or otherwise.

Someone in work uses an Apple keyboard with an old Unix system. Don't like the look of it. I'd like to take my Model M into work but I think it would be a bit noisy.

Only £6 :O A little less than the £68 I spent on the Logitech. Tempted to try a cheap one just to see what it's like. Plenty of cheap ones on Amazon with decent reviews. So long as it has side buttons.

None of them have side buttons in the right place!

I don't understand how hard it is to put thumb buttons next to my bloody thumb.

The (wired) Mad Catz Rat MMO 7 has good thumb buttons - five plus a dpad that are all usable with only a slight twitch from my thumb's natural resting place, and still allows lifting the mouse without pressing any of them.

The wheel is shite, the feet pick up dust too easily, the DPI switcher broke too easily, and sometimes it decides to send a double-click for the LMB - but it's still better than all the alternatives.

Why is it so hard to find a decent mouse? :( Probably wouldn't be so much of an issue if I wanted a wired one (maybe I should stick to my MX518) but there are few wireless mice that seem to fit what I want. Look at the side button placement of the picture I've attached. The back/forward buttons are on top of each other. Terrible, horrible, diabolical placement. How that mouse gets such good review I do not know.

If I want a good wireless mouse it seems the Logitech mice with Lightspeed and the Hero sensor are the way to go. Which is the:
G Pro - £130 - :O
G305 - £52 - Not unacceptable
G603 - £45 - Getting better

or the Lightspeed with the PMW3366 sensor
G903 - £99
G703 - £80

Also I'm learning PHP/Laravel.

I don't understand what the deal is with side buttons, but I'm not a power user.

I'm not really sure how much I use the side buttons but I do miss them when I don't have them.

I can't believe I'm tempted to buy a £130 mouse :O All the other ones seem to have various issues which are putting me off them.

Won't the same money buy you an equally good £6 mouse + ~50 pints?

Jeesh, it's a total no-brainer!
