Yeah, working is probably the number one feature for a browser!

I have 3 installed and can't decide on which I like the most.

I like Dolphin because of the tabs. And Matt just introduced me to Miren which is quite nice. It also has tabs.

Really to me a browser is a browser, but the stock one gives me issues with the frames here, so if I use it I have to use lite mode most of the time.

I don't like the fact that I am using space for other browsers but I'm sure they don't take up much.

I realize this isn't really answering the question, but they all work usually and it's just the small features that make you pick one over another.

My killer feature will be when one lets me sync my Chrome stuff from my computer to my phone. When one gets that done right, that will be my browser.

Dolphin uses the built in HTML rendering gubbins, just the ui that is different.

So not really a reason to use it other than tabs. Very good to know. Thanks!

Lots of the 3rd party browsers do. Miren also uses the same webkit engine as the stock browser. Only Opera and Firefox use their own rendering engines as far as I'm aware.

But the webkit rendering engine won't be responsible for handling the text input or for managing the text selection, that'll be done by the browser UI and the Android API and if either is bugged, that'll be what is causing the crashes.

And there is definitely something about the stock browser that causes it to crash lots compared to Miren and Dolphin. It's gotten especially worse since the text selection changes landed in Android 2.3 for me.

According to the Market comments, the latest Dolphin has become incredibly prone to crashing.

I'm trying Miren, Opera Mobile, and Boat Browser, but they all have annoyances. :(

Wish I could cherrypick from each one.

I feel the same. There is no one perfect browser yet!

I'm not even looking for perfect. Just capable of working on Teh and a small handful of other sites would be enough for now!

I'm curious...

Are there any browsers which are not tabbed, other than the stock one.

Does anyone actually not like tabbed browsing on mobiles?

Why not? Screen space, don't switch much, or something else?

Do you use the stock browser, or one of the others but with tabs disabled?

Stock. I like my browser to be as invisible As possible. I only o csionaly use more than one window at a time on mobile.

Ideally I'd like to not even know I'm using a browser, and stock manages this most of the time quite well.

I'm having nothing but trouble with all 3 of my browsers today. Tried getting to the site multiple time and it just locks up. Had to pull my battery twice already. Surely there has to something better out there?

Also I noticed in the advanced settings or the Moreno browser you can change user agents. Does that only effect how the browser reports to a server or does it also change rendering agents?

I don't care much for the tabbed thing on my mobile. I'm not usually multitasking on the phone so it's not a bigger seller for me.

Meant to say others probably too but couldn't be bothered to type more on my phone earlier. Not really sure if it crashes more with 2.3 while editing text but the cursor placement is definitely troublesome on 2.3.

I just use the stock browser, and not the HTC modified one. I find Dolphin takes up a little too much screen space and found the side bits annoying when scrolling sideways.

Can you expand on that bit?

Whilst I haven't got any objective proof, I think I would say that I've had more crashes since 2.3.4 got installed, compared to whatever I had on it when I first got it (either 2.3.1 or 2.3.2).

But I'm unsure if you're referring to the 2.3.4 upgrade, or the change from 2.2 to 2.3.

Prior to 2.3 (the feature turned up in 2.3 according this), text was selected by tapping and dragging your finger over text you wanted to select. It was completely unusable on touch screens, but I can't recall having problems with the browser crashing using it.

I don't have any proof that it is the cause, but as you said it just seem like the browser is most prone to crashing when position the caret or trying to select text to copy and paste.

Whilst that could certainly explain some of my crashes - probably over half - it doesn't explain them all.

Sometimes I get it when pressing outside of the text box (though that could involve tidying up the caret I guess), and twice today I had it when pressing the "go" button - I can't get that to select text in any way (unless I first do menu>select text).

I wonder if there's crash logs anywhere that might provide stack traces.

Might be able to see it with logcat (from adb shell / terminal), but filtering the background noise might be hard to do.
