Yeah, back when the built-in server wasn't very good, before the bukkit team got hired by Mojang.

I'm asking if there's still actually a need to use it?

I thought they got hired by Mojang so I assume the bukkit people no longer do the bukkit stuff then if the server is so far behind.

Anyway, no idea. I've not played it in absolutely ages and certainly not kept up with all the changes made so maybe Oscar can advise on what we might want to use?

If it's possible then I'd be up for what Peter said, totally vanilla with just a few in-game commands that anyone who's opped can set up. The only concern would be losing the peaceful map that people have put so much work into. I know Keeley has at least one build she'd want to retrieve from it.

That said, I don't really know anything about the logistics behind running a server with or without plugins. I wouldn't want it to be a hassle to you if it'd be easier to run something like Bukkit.

Also, I can't think of a signature, any ideas?

Right, I have a new world running.

Bog standard Minecraft server. Latest version. Currently no mods. I'll try and get dynmap on tonight if I can.

IP : 94.23.32.75
Host : tehmine.no-ip.org (DNS should be updated now)

PB : Want to change mine.tehforum.co.uk to that IP address?

Monsters are currently off for the moment.

CPU is a not so great -  Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU          220  @ 1.20GHz
System has 2gbtbh of which Minecraft has 1GB allocated.

I think the load gets over 1 when generating new terrain, when mining underground it didn't seem to push it too much.

Connection should be 100mbit/100mbit. Server is based in Northern France.

Oscar : I'll see what I can do regarding the old map(s), it is obviously still on my old server. No idea if you can move bukkit worlds to regular minecraft servers.

Cool, thanks for doing all this. :)

If you're able to bundle up the map download, that would probably be good enough for Keeley's needs. Given that nobody was ever on the server I assume else would really want to keep the old map on the new server, but it just seems a shame to delete all those builds forever.

A download of the old map would be epic. I still need to finish Helm's Deep and I'd just managed to find a village with actual villagers in it. It'd be nice to have that world as a single player thing, as that's essentially what I was playing it as, then I can build something new in 1.7 terrain on the new server, possibly not thousands of blocks from spawn where no-one will see it this time.

The folder is 7.14 GB (took ages for windows to count that. 696,579 files!!)

I'll zip it up and start it uploading somewhere tonight so you can get it when you're ready.

Want it splitting into bits or are you fine with a large zip/7z/rar?

Large download works fine for me. Keeley is very happy to not lose her stuff. :D

:/ I have no interest in playing creative or peaceful.

I'll turn them on soon when I've got whatever mods people want installed and working.

So what do we want/need?

Dynmap?

Not fussed either way about Dynmap - it's nice to get an overhead view, but probably less interesting in the early game than later.

As above, my preference would be no health regen, and death counter, but that doesn't need mods - it appears to be just these server commands:

/gamerule naturalRegeneration false
/scoreboard objectives add Deaths deathCount
/scoreboard objectives setdisplay Deaths list

I definitely enjoy having some kind of overviewer map, really helps with build planning.

I have only mild opposition to no health regen, so I'm not totally against it, since I've mostly been playing peaceful. As long as there's fair warning before mobs and stuff are turned on I'm ok with what the majority says.

Are we able or willing to have access to any /tp /home /return type commands? I got used to using them a lot, but if there's no ability or desire from anyone else for them I'm not fussed.

The mini-site thing will be back up at some point at http://mine.tehforum.co.uk

I have seen people mention dynmap on vanilla servers but no actual guide or instructions on installing it for vanilla servers. With bukkit you just stick the jar in the plugins folder. I want to figure this one out because I like dynmap.

This is something I've heard of. I don't think it's real-time dynamic but it gives you a map of the world which I assume you can schedule to re-render daily or whatever you want. I assume it doesn't give you the indicators of where players are though.
