1.7 update! New terrain generation! Time for a new map? :x

Also, I can't think of a signature, any ideas?

If it's not too much trouble. :) Me and Keeley do pop on there (very) occasionally.

We need some sort of project/goal to reignite interest. Only problem is, it seems that everything imaginable has already been done by someone!

I'm totally up for some big group build project! Or even some kind of village or something with lots of individual buildings by each person.

I never know what the hell to do when it comes to building in Minecraft, having that kind of near-infinite choice is something I'm really bad at dealing with. I do love caving and gathering resources though, and finding cool terrain which is even more fun in 1.7 with all the new biomes.

We don't need a project/goal to reignite interest, we need all the boring people to just get themselves interested and see whatever the hell develops out of that.

There's a shitload of new stuff since people last played, but just this last 1.7 update has doubled the number of biomes, added new trees and flowers, and has stained glass blocks and panes, so there's plenty of potential for doing different things.

Or even just doing the same things as other people have done, because - you know: it's fun, and more than one person is allowed to have fun!

A group project would definitely help though, I think. Big projects feel so much more rewarding knowing other people will be around to see it, I've started up a couple of SSP worlds since the last couple of updates and just not really been into it much.

A new map is always exciting as well. I know I don't have anything I'm particularly attached to in the current survival 2012 world and wouldn't mind that being reset if need be. The peaceful world should be kept as it is though, there's far too much stuff there to lose.

Sometime this week I'll setup a new world on my dedicated server and see how well it runs.

Well yeah, having people see stuff is a large part of what makes it worth doing.

Doesn't need to be a single big collaboration though, and I'd rather people played because they wanted to play rather than feeling compelled to join in on a community thing. (Although if that's what it takes to show people that it is fun, that's obviously fine by me.)

I think the problem for me is that this is a game that I played to exhaustion... 2+ years ago. I got all the building-massive-things out of my system back then.

Having said that, I'd be up for popping on now and then and doing a spot of mining and that.

You've not built a massive stained glass labyrinth in a mesa biome, with random traps and treats and stuff.

Right, going to setup something on my dedicated server.

What plugins do we need?

We used to have - dynmap, essentials, essentials spawn, multiverse core, multiverse nether portals and permissionsbukiit.

Already installed dynmap. I'll copy over our old whitelist. Anything else I should be using these days on a new server?

There not being a version of craftbukkit for the new build (1.7.2) could be an issue!

What does it do? Is it still needed?

I would be happy with a setup like the Minecrack server uses - a vanilla server, but with death count displayed in player list, auto-regen turned off (so need golden apples, potions, or beacons). They also placed the first beacon at spawn, to give people a reason to return.

Yeah, back when the built-in server wasn't very good, before the bukkit team got hired by Mojang.

I'm asking if there's still actually a need to use it?

I thought they got hired by Mojang so I assume the bukkit people no longer do the bukkit stuff then if the server is so far behind.

Anyway, no idea. I've not played it in absolutely ages and certainly not kept up with all the changes made so maybe Oscar can advise on what we might want to use?

If it's possible then I'd be up for what Peter said, totally vanilla with just a few in-game commands that anyone who's opped can set up. The only concern would be losing the peaceful map that people have put so much work into. I know Keeley has at least one build she'd want to retrieve from it.

That said, I don't really know anything about the logistics behind running a server with or without plugins. I wouldn't want it to be a hassle to you if it'd be easier to run something like Bukkit.
