We don't.

When I was in business and accumulating mounds of parts I had a fellow who would stop and get them and build them just like you mention.

Normally these would go on Ebay, but I am growing tired of the hassle that Ebay has become.

It is a very nice offer but so far I've paid nothing so I'm not worried about being the host :-)

ah yes, so worth bearing in mind that he is about 10 and maybe plays a bit differently to most on there

he kept attacking me with a diamond sword the other day, seemed genuinely surprised and a bit guilty when he killed me!

Did everyone see this? Not about Minecraft, but Mojang's next game.

quote: Gamespot
In a post on his personal blog, Persson said he had been contacted by Bethesda Softworks lawyers upset over a Mojang trademark filing for its next game, Scrolls. According to Persson, the lawyers believed that filing infringed on their own trademark for The Elder Scrolls games.

Must be hard work being a lawyer and coming up with such frivolous claims as this.

Uh? :?

You've got (at least) 128 pieces of track and a one-piece hole.

I'm leaving gaps every 12 pieces or so for booster track. Not a good idea?

Well you'll use up three times as much gold and redstone as you need to without any benefit, so no, not a good idea.

Good idea!

Also, while linking up to the rail network is fun for its own sake, we've kinda moved on to nether transportation as it's far quicker.

Way to do it is this:

1. Make a nether gate in the real world and go through to the nether.
2. Destroy the nether gate in the nether (unless you came through to someone else's gate, in which case go to step 3)
3. Make a nether gate in the nether at exactly the equivalent place to your real-world one (i.e. divide the co-ords of the real world one by 8 (except for Y, it can be anywhere in the Y) (this step ensures that your gate will not be twinned with any others)
4. Link up to the nether rail system!

The maximum speed of a train in a straight line is 8 blocks per second.

If you place a powered rail every 12 blocks, you will travel at 8 blocks per second.

If you place a powered rail every 24 blocks, you will travel at 8 blocks per second.

If you place a powered rail every 37 blocks, you will travel at 8 blocks per second.

After that, you don't stay at max speed (one every 45 blocks is only 7.1 blocks per second, 50 is 6.5, etc).

(And if you want to argue, go argue with this guy who actually tested it.)

A powered rail every 12 is a bit too much. I used 1 ever 16 at first but realised even that's too much and will probably move up to 1 every 24 next time I make a track. Apparently one every 36 is all you need but I find that spurious.

I have been ninja'd with statistics. :-@

Also, I can't think of a signature, any ideas?

OK, so I'll only put a booster in every third gap, with normal track in the other two.

As for the nether track, it'd feel like cheating, and I'd have to destroy all I've just put together!
