For reference:

I'm probably not going to be around much for the next coupla days, so here are a couple of commands you may need.

/whitelist add (player) - adds a name to the whitelist.

/modify (player) g:admins -makes them an admin and enables warp and items etc.

Go crazy!

Also /reload forces a reload if the config files if the added whitelist thing hasn't registered yet.

Well there we go - seems it works reasonably well over a crappy 3G connection.

Of course, that was only supposed to be a quick half hour test, which then turned into two hours. :(

Will have to set myself timers so I don't get too carried away on there.

Especially since my construction is going to end up big enough that you could fit all the other things built so far inside it. Twice!

Blame Xen! :@

I found someone else who's already doing it. :(

My one was going to be about 768x256, but I realised that wouldn't fit and halved everything (and it'll still not fit without enlarging the lake).

They're saying theirs is 900x350, so now I'm wondering if I need to go triple my current scale, which would be about 1152x450 - but that would take a lot more effort to increase the lake significantly. :S

Hmmm, at 1 block : 1 meter that means a height of ~152 block above sea-level - but the map only goes to 128 and sea level is 64. :(

Working back from that, the maximum scale that'll fit a proper map is ~632 blocks long

Which is still 1.5 times bigger than what I was working to, so I don't know what to do now.

Yeah, do it so that the tower is as tall as will fit. Any less would be a disservice :Y

But what if Notch then goes and doubles the map height when he does the new savegame format? :(

Thinking it might be best to stick to something simpler for now, and do it later instead.

Start with the tower then build out, that way there's something manageable to start with and it gets cooler the more you work on it.

Do you have to eat in the game? I thought it was all about the building/mining.

I refuse to play a game where you have to make your avatar eat to stay alive in a perfunctory way. :-Y

Eating is optional.

If you're playing survival mode, you've got 10 hp and different food types can restore varying amounts of it.

Falling off things reduces HP, as does being attacked my monsters.

On Teh Mine there are no monsters and you regenerate pretty fast, so food isn't required unless you want to repeatedly jump off of high places in quick succession.

Ah, essentially a medikit (tm) device then?

I'd get this game if I didn't think my addictive nature would kick in... I can see myself whiling away the wee hours for weeks on end working on building the biggest/longest/widest thing ever. (nj).

I don't know what you're doing cos I haven't logged on for HOURS. But I will gladly help with whatever your project is if you figure out a way of me having an autofeeding cart mechanism for my rollercoaster at some point.
