Full time job, long term employment, regular pay, OK!

Freelance, not quite so OK.

Depending how frequent the trips to London are, either schedule them to fit your day off, or just throw sickies.

This is an interim sig.
The changing of this sig in no way implies that Peter Boughton is not a cunt.

That's exactly what I thought. Surely using a day of your hols is worth it for a meeting which could help future prospects.

Without beating about the bush then, I wouldn't really want to just travel to London even if it was occasionally just for a meeting which might last a few hours.

As for pulling sickies, doesn't really work when there is only 2 or 3 people in each day. It's not like we have a office full of staff where if someone goes off sick they're not missed.

During a presentation by my boss last week, he let slip that they 'expect' us to take 1.25 days sick each month! :O

Anywhere that doesn't notice someone being off sick is presumably a bit overstaffed. But oh well, up to you.

Anybody else want this opportunity?

I know someone who might be interested, but I've not had a reply from them as to if they are yet.

I would ask more, but I'm moody.

Warning: this bench becomes red-hot between 1a.m and 7a.m. No sleeping.

I don't, as I am most certainly too moody for him. I imagine it will go something like this.

"I need you to make it so when they load the page it says, really loudly, 'Welcome to Uncle Bob's Anal Playhouse!!!'"

"Yeah, I'm not going to do that. That would be retarded and annoying. What if someone's browsing at work? Do you want people to not shop your site when they're on their lunch break at work?"

"Why are you so moody? You're fired!"

That kind of thinking kept me shoveling chips for over seven pretty much wasted years.

Thing is, he's right.

Then again, I grew a lot as a person and learned a lot of things as a freelance developer that I'd never have learned (or grown) if I'd stayed in a secure job.

I just never really had much money.

It's not even a straight choice though really. With even a little bit of motivation it would not be at all hard to do a freelance project or two on the side of the main job while you get yourself a grounding. The freelance then hopefully grows to the point where you have to quit the boring job because the interesting one is making more money and taking more time. But if it doesn't, nothing lost. But yeah, it does need a bit of wanting to do it in the first place.

I reckon the real reason is that Matt doesn't actually know any PHP. Everyone knows the Beehive code is nicked off Webvelosix.

It's all Perl. And there is no database, it's all text files.

I knew it! Although if it were true I'm sure that the server spec would need to be upped somewhat...
