I can honestly say I'm not in debt!

No credit cards, no loan, no mortgage.

Allthough I do still live with my mum and don't really have many bills to pay. I tend to save my money if I want stuff rather than getting credit. I like to think I'm pretty good a spotting nice deal as well.

I also tend to walk to work and back most days (about 2-3 miles) rather than pay for sheffields rather crappy public transport. I don't drive as is just seems like a black hole for money with fuel prices nowadays. I'm a Linux geek and therefore have no software costs. Working at Insight also means I get my 'pooter hardware at cost price +vat which is nice.

In fact, I wonder where all my money actualy goes. I think the vast majority of it goes on food, beer, and taxis when I'm too pissed to walk. Oh and some charity or other, I forget which. Maybe I ought to keep track of things one of these days...

This is where I can gleefully proclaim that I'm about to pay off my student loan before I graduate! It's sitting at a smidgen under £5k but after getting money from my Grandad (now gorne) I can pay it off and save the rest for a car once I graduate so I can hopefully get a proper job a bit further away if needed.

Good old Scotland paying my fees (for now). Bad old Student loans company for charging more interest than I thought they did.

Edit: And as for a credit card, having a job means I can spend as much as my mates but unlike them it isn't on an overdraft or credit card.

(that and I've managed to convince my mum and dad to pay rent, which is handy too!)

I am an appalling miser, and I have a ledger and a box file detailing all of the money I don't have. I have -£3,667. I have no relatives to kill*

:'-(

*This is a lie. I have six (living) close relatives. I am executor of the wills of three, and hence I know that I stand to profit not a penny from despatching any of them.

I started off with something similar from Payplan which is a charity actually paid for by the credit industry. They're the ones who also organised my IVA for me - no fees upfront and the insolvency practitioner who dealt with it took reasonable fees. I believe that one of the options CCCS will offer is to do something similar and set up an IVA if needed.

It was pretty shit as you can guess - I ended up having half a term off work because of it. Things are equally shit now (if not worse because I don't get to see my children very much at all) but I have the love of a good woman to help me out.

<Hopes she reads this so that I'm not in trouble later on for anything/>

I have about £1800 or so left on a loan from a few years ago, but I hope to have paid that off early, by around feb/march time. After which, I shall be quite loaded.

I'm currently £8000 in debt to the student loan company and I have another 3 1/2 years to go. I also at some point intend to pay my Dad back for the £8000 he has put into my accomadation so far and whatever he will put in for the next few years. All in all I reckon I'll come out of uni about £42000 in the red.

5 years basic, then an extra year in the middle to do an extra degree (hopefully anatomy).

Technically two years after that are training, but I get paid for them.

To put it in a bit more perspecive around £18 000 odd of that will be totally interest free as I will be just paying my Dad back, and seeing as he doesn't even know I will be doing it if my finances do go tits up I don't have to pa it back, but I do intend to.

Although I haven't taken into account my elective which could set me back another £1000-3000.

My only debt is a £150 credit card bill, soon to increase by £600 when the Pentax K10D becomes available.
