I'd like Kalpol Introl by Autechre, from their Incunabula album. I tend to play it when the first signs of frost appear. Either that or the Imposter's Mix of Tricky's Christiansands, which usually what goes on after it. Or, to get away from the bleak coldness of winter, how about Merry Christmas by Wesley Willis, as demonstrated here. How could one's cockles not be melted? Awaits post from Trig saying it's stupid and gay and the only people allowed to write songs about Christmas are East 17, because they did it in the '90s Kenny The Wisdom of YouTube comments: Bright Eyes - When The President Talks To God Not bad. I thought this song might be anti-God, but it seems more to be against the president, which is cool by me.

Yes, but BP's point I believe is that there's loads of different definitions about when it does and doesn't start. Indeed it was, but to expand on what Dave!! pointed out, sp hadn't mentioned that it was the Astronomical definition. Personally I find the climatic definition to be the most sensible - since winter is generally 'the cold part of the year', so why not make it align with the actual coldest part of the year. (and the time of the year when the autumn leaves have mostly finished falling and the time where mid-winter is actually in the middle.) `3.1415P265E589T932E846R64338`

Well, here at least, the coldest part of the year probably is between about Dec 21st and March 21st. It's not gotten really frigid yet and it doesn't tend to start thawing out until the end of March.
