Anyone interested in earning a little cash for coding up an AJAX drag-n-drop website? Derek from Enclothe asked me if I knew anyone that could create a site somewhat akin to this one. I don't know how much he's willing to pay but I figured someone here might be interested in exercising their Ruby/AJAX madskillz for financial gain. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you Derek's contact details.

I'm not particularly interested in the job, because I don't know any of this AJAX nonsense and wouldn't know where to begin, but I have one of his t-shirts, and it's very nice.

Kurt Vonnegut: Slaughterhouse 5
My main problem, apart from the uber-randomness, is that the events in the book didn't actually happen, and the main character didn't actually go through the war, because he didn't exist. I'm a freshman in high school, and I was relieved when my English G/T (Lyceum) teacher confirmed my suspiciouns that Kurt Vonnegut was, in fact, high.

I have 'Bleedbot' and am seriously tempted by the 'Ghost Ship' hoodie... and now also by 'Fallen Angel'. Damn you, Kenny, for reminding me that one can never have too many T-shirts!

I'm still trying to learn the whole AJAX shebang, otherwise I'd definately do it. However, thank you for pointing out that site, I have never seen it before.

AJAX itself isn't difficult. Just get JSMX, then it's a simple case of including a single JS file and writing a couple of functions per call.
Used it quite a bit for a thing at work and it's nice and painless.

Things can start getting more complex when you have to take into account the order of commands and so on, but that just means you have to think a little, and ensure you send/receive timestamps with your functions, and cater for timeouts. Code-wise it's still relatively easy.

Well yes, but when people say AJAX they often mean more than the programming itself- it seems to be more an idea of a more interactive web page, like that there drag and drop capability. I could proably do something like it, but I intend to experiment in my own free time before I start taking on people who actually want to pay me...

Well drag and drop is DHTML or Web 2.0, neither of which are actually any more descriptive/useful terms than AJAX.

But yeah, I know what you mean. :)
