It only seems like yesterday I was extolling the virtues of this actor (42761.1) and now him gorn. He never reached the dizzy heights of fame enjoyed by some of his near contemporaries: Ian McKellan, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley etc. etc. but he always seemed to be there, and I think he was a bloody good actor. Three Star Trek appearances and a different character every time is pretty good going.

Looking through his impressive oeuvre, I must have seen him many times in film, though the name didn't stick. The obits I noticed all seem to have him pegged more as a popular-in-uk live theatre actor, so I didn't delve into it, me not being a fan of uk (or any) live theatre.
