This appears to be the most recent version still playable on xp. The character graphics look a tad primitive, but decent environments. On sale @ HB for $Can.7. Worth it?

If you can get the game with the DLC, then yeah. The Ballad Of Gay Tony was the best bit about GTA IV.

I got some mega deal on Steam a while back, GTA 1, 2, 3, 4 (plus DLC), San Andreas and Vice City for £5.  :-D I've only played GTA IV though.

I actually preferred 'The Lost and Damned' expansion.

I preferred the characterisation of your character in TBOGT, and if I'm remembering rightly it had an overlap with the main GTA IV story where some diamond heist went wrong. That was quite cool. It seemed longer than The Lost and Damned, but that might be skewed in my memory 'cos I played TBOGT last and carried on after completing it with the city sandbox afterwards and finishing up the drug running side quests.
