Cardboard

Oh, I thought I'd mentioned that before. Short version: not enough clients and a recruiter pointed me at a position for a local place that had a nice vibe, no stupid bureaucracy, and where the CEO orders Oculus and Google Glass because ... well if we have them then maybe someone might figure out something that can be done with them. Been there about a year and a half now.

Thanks, Richard Burns Rally sounds just the thing... but not sure it's going to work...

From kegetys.fi/oculus-rift-mod-for-richard-burns-rally:

I think we've only got direct-to-rift mode working; with extended mode the tracking wasn't working right. Will give it a try anyway though.

I don't get the vomit thing at all. With the first version, about one in three people had bad nausea and stuff, a similar amount were fine, and the rest were somewhere in the middle - just a bit queasy for a short while.

This version seems smoother / less severe, though obviously not tried as much yet, but if the consumer version is improved as much again as this seems to be I think it'll be ok.

Is that game where you're a dolphin and you are in dolphin school at your desk doing a test and you have to look at the other dolphins' answers when the teacher isn't looking, is that one out yet?

How do dolphins sit?

I've not heard of that one, though there was another one where you're just at a desk and can look around - no dolphins or cheating.

I saw something today about a Mozilla JS plugin thing that can work with Cinema 4D scenes in the browser... not yet looked into details, but it does mean if I ever get my website done it should be relatively simple to add a Rift mode, which is cool.

Well i have yet to be sick but it has been close once or twice when I have chanced it a bit. It is a general feeling of of queasyness but that is not how you want to feel for a few hours whilst playing a game is it?

I've run through a couple of tutorials but found this one really good for 2D stuff. It takes you through making a game called Zombie Conga. Just finished it tonight and thinking about making something myself now.

That tutorial reminds me about a similar tutorial in the amiga days, I have forgotten the program but I remember making animated sprites for a shooty game.

Have you used the cardboard much and is it any good? I ordered some lenses from eBay and printed off the plans to make the viewer. I'll get around to putting it together at some point but not sure my Note will fit in it.

It's been a long time since I've used it. I was just thinking about getting it out the other day. I'm not sure if the Note will fit or not! I might just 3D print one if I can find one that says it will hold a Note.

Was it any good when you did use it? I had trouble trying to find a template for big phones. Not sure what the max size of the standard one is.

Yeah, it was pretty good.  I took it to work and everyone who used it was pretty impressed, considering you have a cardboard box on your face!  Since I've messed with mine last they have made a lot of different apps.  I need to get mine back out!
