I can do either. Manthorp Mews is more than happy to receive guests, sleeping in varying degrees of discomfort and squalor from the spare bedroom down to a mound of hair extracted from the shower plughole.
York is always a pleasure and a delight, but may I also put forward Leeds - we haven't meated there in an age.
I would suggest the Wetherspoons on the railway station concourse. Convenient for all rail travellers, not too far from the coach station, and a decent pint of Guinness.

I'm highly considering it, but it's going to be rather expensive from down 'ere (~£53 - £78! :O ).
I have the choice of Banbury to Leeds changing at Sheffield or alternatively changing at Birmingham New Street, which sounds better to me as I know New Street reasonably well!
If you're definitely going and changing by train, could meet you at Birmingham New Street?
