Favicon Location

Can someone point me to the correct place to place my favicon.ico file for my forum and where I insert the code needed to make it show up?

Putting it in the root folder should work if it's of the right format. That way just works but is frowned upon by people who frown.

Other way is to point to it on every page with:

code:
<link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="http://whatever.com/thing.png">

Specifically regarding Beehive, if you want a separate favicon for each forum, you need to place the favicon.ico file in /forum/forums/WEBTAG, for example ours is here:

http://www.tehforum.co.uk/forum/forums/DEFAULT/favicon.ico

Beehive will look for a favicon.ico file in this directory and include the relevant HTML automatically. Only requirement is that it is named favicon.ico and is a proper Windows icon file, otherwise it won't display in MSIE.

Doesn't putting it in the root folder only work if its specifically an .ico file? And you may even have to call it 'favicon.ico', although 'anything.ico' may also work. Dunno.

Aye, that's what I meant by 'of the right format'. Lazy shorthand as it'd been called that in the first post.

I'm feeling lazy today, Nigel.

Never mind, Andrew. It's not as if anyone actually reads the first post.

Quite right Nigel. In fact I don't even know why people bother with first posts.

I really do think, Andrew, that this whole information superhighway would move much quicker if we dispensed with the first posts altogether. They simply clog the lanes. Move straight on to the second post and save the electrons, that's what I say! :Y

I agree. Then no one could be accused of going off-topic!

This might be going too far, Nigel, but how about we restrict all threads to only having a last post. That's usually the one with the information in it.

While not without merit, Andrew, your suggestion does assume that the thread terminates once the solution has been presented, and indeed that the solution is wholly presented on one post. As Mr Thomas quite rightly observes, threads have a habit of taking tangential routes of discourse. Under such circumstances, I fear that we may end up preserving not solutions by electronic fluff.

Perhaps we should undertake a probablistic analysis of threads to determine the zenith of information presentation? We should include in this analysis the concept of thread 'die away' (or tending to off topic).

And now it's lunchtime!

Nigel, that is the perfect solution.

That's 'sane' in a fairly liberal definition of the word then, embracing 'pill-popping mentalist'.
