I'll have to clear it with Mrs.D... also I'll need to remember to buy a microphone for my pc (I already bought a patch cable to get it around the back).

I am currently sans microphone. I'll see if I can pick up a cheap supermarket one tonight on my way home.

I wound up getting a headphone with microphone thing, remains to be seen if the plug actually works on my sound card.

Well goddamit. The headphone w/microphone has a weirdish plug that won't work on a standard pc sound card, and it was supposed to come with an adaptor with separate microphone & headphone plugs to use on a pc. Only it didn't (it actually appeared to have been returned and repakaged before). So I have to take it back. No microphone 'til then.
 

Was it made for a console?

I dunno. It looks like a standard stereo mini-plug with an extra bit on the end. Says it's for tablets, phones -- and PCs, with the (missing) adaptor. Might be able to return it tomorrow, if we go downtown.

Made the exchange. Good news is the headphones have a super-long cord, so I won't need to use extensions to reach the back of my pc, unlike so many cheap-ass devices (and @ Can.$20, I think this qualifies as cheap-ass). Sound quality remains to be seen, but I think they are meant for skyping & such more than screaming zombies and shotgun blasts.
