No, on political correctness. I am not politically correct, nor am I political correctness itself. Ergo, I do not shit on myself and your assertion is, accordingly, bollocks.
You can tell her books are old fashioned because Mr Policeman doesn't shoot the golliwogs.
I'm not particularly entrenched in nostalgia, and I find her writing a bit excruciating now TBH, but changing her words to suit political correctness or modern social mores is just plain wrong IMO. It would be like covering Michelangelo's David because he's showing his 'thingy'.
What are they going to do with Fanny By Gaslight?
I get that and I share your disdain for things PC... But where does it end then?
I guess they took upon that one due to the usual words to describe them: "Fem", "Queer", "Backbiter", "Homo", "Twink", "Pretty Boy", "Silly boy", "Pansy". "Sword-Swallower", "Periwinkle", et. al. It sounds so much more "acceptable" I guess. The girls are not outdone with, "Dyke", "Carpet-muncher", "Butch", "Lez"(Lezzie, Lezbe, Lesbo), Bean flicker, Kitty-puncher...
Gay is also only one syllable.
