You could just remove the sensor plate, since its basically just a load of metal tracks that get bridged by water to make a circuit, and run two wires to the floor where the water will be.

Hmm, so if any of that gets wet it registers right?  That might work just fine.

Yeah if you wet your finger and touch the plate it registers. Or put a drop of water on it.

Turns out my cheap rain sensor corroded in the rain so it has stuck on! Oh the irainy. (sorry)
