Kind of urgent laptop-me-do

So as per my other thread somewhere, my flat was robber the other week. My laptop was/is insured, apparently the insured value is £789.

My old one was this one here: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/laptops/1296391/samsung-series-5-550p5c-s03/specifications

Key points:
i5 3210m
geforce GT 650m
1tb hard drive
6gb of RAM

Unfortunately it was end of line when I bought it, so there's basically no chance of getting the same one again. The insurance company have just been on the phone offering a shitty Acer* as a replacement which I've obviously refused. So now I have to find something of at least the same spec - primarily in the graphics department.

Any ideas? I don't really know where to start looking - it took me the best part of 3 months to decide on the Samsung, and I'm supposed to call the insurance guy back this afternoon with a decision.

*I know Throb loves the Acer, but the style and build quality is nothing like comparable to Samsung. And the spec was waaaay off.

Dell or Dell Outlet?

Worth a check, but I don't think they'd go for Dell Outlet. And by the time I get back through to them anything I found would be sold anyway :C

Ah, I've never done a claim like that so don't know how it works. Can they not just reimburse you (though I know spending £800 yourself could be difficult if you're sorting all sorts of other shit)?

Or send a cheque for the money it's insured for?

Nope, the insurance company's contractor (Haac ltd or something) have to source it. No cash alternative available etc. Cunts.

Anyone got any kind of clue what the current equivalent of the GeForce 650M is? Either Nvidia or Radeon/AMD tbh x2gb. Why are graphics chips numbered so stupidly?! :@

OK, I quite like the look of this, but what's with that stupid keyboard layout? It's making me feel all PB :S

Looks rather nice actually; the keyboard is different because it's a larger format I guess.

They have the same layour on their 15.6" laptops. Small return key, \ above it. Not sure what else they've done to it. I normally use my pinky for the return key, and it always lands just over half-way up - which would be the \ key on the Lenovo.

Also the Gefrock 740M is about 10% slower than the 650M in my old one, and the screen is higher res so I reckon I'd really notice the difference in the two :(

There's absolutely no need for the left shift key to be so large.

Is that a US layout or something?

I believe the technical term is "bloody fucking stupid".

You just can't handle a real keyboard.

Samsung seem to do the silly left shift/return thing on their US layours, but UK layouts appear to be normal (from a quick google image search).

Lenovo US and UK are both wack.

Are all your keyboards like that?

think I'm going to try and get this one out of them, even if i have to pay a bit more (if that's possible)

Not all of them. My dell laptop has both shift keys full sized.

If that was a desktop keyboard, I'd say without doubt that it is a US layout with the slash above the Enter key and you'd get a UK layout, but as it's a laptop anything is possible :(

(Lots of websites reuse the stock photos from the manufacturer, so you tend to see this almost everywhere.)

I thought that too and searched and didn't find any photos that didn't show the odd layout.
