HP DriveLock

I'm currently trying to wipe and reinstall Windows on a computer that seems to have its hard drive locked. It's a HP Compaq dc7700p system that has a SATA hard drive and is requesting a password on boot.

I don't know the password and I very much doubt I'll be able to get the password.

Has anyone had any experience of unlocking password protected hard drives?

Having a read around it seems like it could be the standard ATA locking but I still have no idea how to remove it.

Quickly looking around I believe you are SOL. From what I've read you will need to replace the drive if you can't figure out the password.

Edit: Which makes sense. What good is a product called drive lock if there was a way around it?

That's the conclusion I came to. One less computer for me to worry about!

Hdd passwords are generally impossible to get around, for our intents and purposes :(
