ADSL

Speedtest.net results are like 1.9 Mbit, although that could just be peak time... :|

Should definitely be syncing over 15 mbit.

That's better :)

According to broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk, Sky's average sync rate is a paltry 3Mbit.

Unless Kos ever got 15Mbit on ADSL with another provider, he's unlikely to ever get that with Sky. It is after all still done over BT's copper, even if it's LLU.

Kos: Can you get your line stats from the router? Would need sync speed, attenuation and SNR if available and plumb them into Kitz ADSL speed calculator

I posted it up there, but plugging the figure into that site gives me:

ADSL2+ LLU: 20608 kbps
Line length: 1.4 km

Don't know if Sky's average is any use to go by, Tracy is on Sky and she gets about 16-17Mbps. Surely the average is based more on where the 'average' customer lives etc. than anything else?

Anyway, if they can't get it over 7.something Mbps I can cancel the account with no charge. Woop!

Does Tracy live in the same area as yourself? ADSL can be a fickle beast, even my neighbour (semi-detached property) only gets 6Mbit with Orange and I used to get 8~9Mbit with O2 and the telegraph poll feeding the cable to my house is right outside, this side of the road and equal distance between the two houses.

If it doesn't improve, moving away from Sky might help, but it also might not and you might be stuck with whatever you've got now. Not saying you will, just don't go expecting miracles.

Would certainly be worth doing what Serg said and trying to find where the cable goes. Regardless of where your BT master socket is, you may still have some other kind of terminal box somewhere (even outside) that is causing problems, although you're in a flat aren't you(?), so that might be a problem.

Nah, she lives on the other side of Edinburgh and is quite a bit from the exchange.

I'll wait for Sky to email back, or give them a call tomorrow if I get bored (and can find a phone to plug in to the line).

There's absolutely nothing on the line within my flat, except the master socket. I'm on the top floor and it comes straight into the back window from the telegraph poll in the back garden.

I went off the line stats with my prediction.

Line stats are what it should go off irrelevant. Good stats /should/ equal good syncs. My stats are worse but I sync at 17 mbit.

Climb along the wire and check if there's anything weird on the pole? :D

Don't know what they did, but yesterday I was on about 3Mbps, today I have this:D

DownStream Connection Speed 19005 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 1150 kbps

Wonder why they haven't worked that out themselves.
