Does this piss anyone else off?

I don't care much for the tabbed thing on my mobile. I'm not usually multitasking on the phone so it's not a bigger seller for me.

Meant to say others probably too but couldn't be bothered to type more on my phone earlier. Not really sure if it crashes more with 2.3 while editing text but the cursor placement is definitely troublesome on 2.3.

I just use the stock browser, and not the HTC modified one. I find Dolphin takes up a little too much screen space and found the side bits annoying when scrolling sideways.

It's gotten especially worse since the text selection changes landed in Android 2.3 for me.

Can you expand on that bit?

Whilst I haven't got any objective proof, I think I would say that I've had more crashes since 2.3.4 got installed, compared to whatever I had on it when I first got it (either 2.3.1 or 2.3.2).

But I'm unsure if you're referring to the 2.3.4 upgrade, or the change from 2.2 to 2.3.

Prior to 2.3 (the feature turned up in 2.3 according this), text was selected by tapping and dragging your finger over text you wanted to select. It was completely unusable on touch screens, but I can't recall having problems with the browser crashing using it.

I don't have any proof that it is the cause, but as you said it just seem like the browser is most prone to crashing when position the caret or trying to select text to copy and paste.

Whilst that could certainly explain some of my crashes - probably over half - it doesn't explain them all.

Sometimes I get it when pressing outside of the text box (though that could involve tidying up the caret I guess), and twice today I had it when pressing the "go" button - I can't get that to select text in any way (unless I first do menu>select text).

I wonder if there's crash logs anywhere that might provide stack traces.

Might be able to see it with logcat (from adb shell / terminal), but filtering the background noise might be hard to do.

When did it become the norm for me to pay the usual price for something and then have to put it together?

This pisses me off!!!!!

'tis neither. It's to cook delicious meats!

How quaint you colonials are with your gas-powered campfires. All sitting round of an evening after a hard day on the prairies shooting negroes and disposessing natives, sharing the songs and tales of the old country over a cup of fermented bison milk and a roasted kangaroo.

There is no point in a gas-fired BBQ, no point at all.

I have never understood why people spend many thousands on a decent kitchen then delight in eating food badly cooked over some kind of fire, cos it's so much better outside somehow

It's cultural. Ask xen, he knows.

So you guys don't have grills and have cook outs? Food cooked on a grill tastes great! And that's the only point you need to have one.

Yes, we do. In fact, we had one in the mountains only yesterday. And therein lies the point: we build the fire with wood, although briquettes are a suitable alternative if you're BBQing at home.

If I want to cook with gas, I'll go into the kitchen.

Ah, I see what you're saying. And I agree, charcoal is much better. We still use that from time to time but usually it's just the gas grill because it saves so much time.

I am slowly being converted to the idea of a gas-fired bbq in addition to a charcoal one.

They're not the same as simply using the grill in the kitchen, they often have treated wood or whatever to impart a bit more flavour. And cooking the meats outside means that even if you're eating in, the fats and smoke and whatnot is not being deposited all over the inside of the kitchen. And when the coal runs out you can still use the gas grill. Unless you run out of gas.

Not sure what joncooper's complaint is, seems to me that bbqing badly is easy to do but so is cooking badly indoors!

bbq is almost always done badly, and almost always done within 100ft of a perfectly good kitchen
