It was working earlier, but it's down again now.

One of the threads on the Minecraft Forums mentions that Notch and co at Mojang have gone to GDC (Game Developer's Conference) in San Fransico, leaving nobody with the keys to the server to be able to administer it.

It's a bit like that time when Pete and myself went to Teh Nodnol meet and Teh fell over*, except EVEN MORE FUCKING ANNOYING. Gah.

*This is true, I even tried to restart the server using pocketputty on my phone, but had a) consumed too much alcohol and b) couldn't get a stable data connection to do it.

nah - that's the ver1.2 /bin folder - no good now since Kos updated the server
I am using a .jar file (I'll attach it to this post)
my minecraft.exe doesn't seem to work well at all, but the .jar works most often

I'm not over it yet. I still have a massive hole to fill.

How do you use that? I opened the .zip but don't know what to do with it.

I just double-click on the .jar file and it all happens auto-magically

(.jar file is in my main minecraft folder, not sure if that makes any difference though)

Hmm. Minecraft.jar wants to open with WinZip :( I'll keep fiddling.

A jar is a (java) executable, but it is also a archive container. Sounds like your file associationsbarebfucked.

Renamed it to minecraftlauncher.jar from minecraftlauncher.jar.zip and it loads, but still won't let me on the server.

Probably because you downloaded it with IE, and IE is shit and likes to fuck with things like that.

There's still plenty of life in it! The game hasn't even finished development yet - so even if everyone here did get bored tomorrow (not going to happen), you'd have a spurt of Teh people playing it at least for a while when it is actually fully released.

It just died.

I fell to my death digging out the pool and when I respawned I was floating in space for a while with no terrain at all, then it booted me out and I can't reconnect now :(
