Someone needs to do a video of this tunnel thing and shove on youtube or something.

should wait till it's finished, it's joined up to the road now - but stations were planned ...

And I need to finish the bridge and have the track going over that too.

Ok how do you stop it updating? The one I download now is pre-updated.

Do what Kos says here about replacing the bin folder. Then get the new launcher off minecraft.net.

Ahh. Really don't want to have to rename folders to play in SP/other servers.

I will wait. Unless I get really impatient.

What's the reason for not going to 1.3?

To: Drew (X3N0PH0N) 733 of 3934

Not going to 1.3 just yet, will wait and see what hMod people say about 1.3 - if it's going to be /ages/ then might just move to 1.3.

Anyway, reasons are:

No hMod - so no warping
No backups
No minecart mania (:$)
More difficult whitelist/admin privs etc.

Fair enough (although it might be fun to go wild west for a while).

I've downgraded now anyway :C

But the new lighting is so pretty :C

And LOGIC BLOCKS! :C

Yeah, I know. And it seems to run so much better, too.

Right, had a quick look and situation is thus:

hMod: the guy that's been maintaining it since hey0 had a hissy fit is on holiday until the 28th, so presumably he'll only start looking at a new build some point after that. So potentially a month or so of sticking to 1.2

kMod: nothing posted/updated in about a month

Bukkit: God these people are /sooo/ shit at actually conveying information. Why isn't there a current status thing on their page, saying what stage Bukkit is at etc? I've found a link to a build that works with 1.3 via Twitter, but I've no idea what the fuck works/is supported because they are dicks. The last post on the bukkit.org page is from 6th of Feb ffs!

I know other people probably feel different but my preference is that if a mod stops working with the current version then fuck the mod. I'd rather use the current version unmodded. That's assuming it's not just a tiny update, I mean ones that actually add cool stuff.

I think the biggest loss would be no warping but... well, there are simple teleport mods. Or we could walk. Would be interesting at least.

Aye, less of an issue now there's an UNDERGROUND RAILWAY too :D

My biggest concern is not the warps and that, but the backing up of stuff.

:-|

I'm going to keep reading about Bukkit and see what's what, but it's so hard to find any actual information.

presumably you could do a manual/timed backup without using a mod? I mean it's not a thing which has to be a mod, right? The only problem being a backup colliding with a save.

I think it'd do us all good to be made to walk everywhere (or ride a minecart) for a bit - it'd reinforce the sense of size of the world, and make it feel more like a coherent whole, as opposed to a bunch of separate and unconnected places.

I also think a skyway track network should be created, just so it shows up on the map images :D

To back up manually I have to stop the server as several thousand of the 70k files are open.

Presumably more important with the new file format (a world in only a 10 files! :D)

Aye, I agree. Might even encourage building between the main settlements. Maybe.

Kos: Surely you can backup a file while it's being read? Just not when it's being written. They're not locked or anything are they?

OK, server is offline for a few. I am copying the entire server directory, settings and all, and going to try running the bukkit mod to see what's what. That'll be with 1.3 on.

Apparently Minecart Mania works with bukkit already, and i'm not sure yet but I /think/ there is some kind of backup shit built in.
