And for those who weren't there..?

I was standing watching various people mining in a glitch when Kos & Drew turned up, acted all friendly etc just waiting 'till I looked the other way - then they chucked TNT at me and ran away!!!

I wouldn't have expected anything less from those two. Kos has only recently stopped greeting my logging into the server by teleporting to me and hitting me a few times with whatever's in his hand at the time.

That track in the tunnel is a health and safety NIGHTMARE. I lost loads of my stuff when I crashed into a runaway cart at speed.

So I'm building runaway cart detectors. Don't panic, if you're bombing along and you're in a cart you'll go straight on. If a cart has no occupant it will be taken off the track and stored :Y

Good lad.

Looks like I'll not have to impose a Potters Bar H&S fine on you today then.

I was going to make one for runaway carts going the other way, but I am failing to login :(

Response code 503?

Edit: Oh right, restarted the application and yeah, won't connect to minecraft.net

Yeah, the authentication servers seem to have had a bit of a wobbly. Apparently, someone's trying to fix it at the moment.

The 503 error is because (I think) minecraft.net is down, and the server verifies your user name with minecraft.net to make sure you're not pretending to be someone on the whitelist.

I shall turn off that check now and you should be able to log in if you do 'play off line' when you load minecraft.

If you still can't log in, the new launcher (which uses HTTPS) seems to still be working. Can grab it here:

Is that definitely the official one?

Notch's blog post only references minecraft.net/download.jsp which doesn't mention that file. :/

That is the beta/leaked one that Notch linked to on Twitter on Friday.

The 'official' one came out today, just before minecraft.net fell over :D

Well minecraft.net is back and seems reasonable speed (and was when I posted that).

And his blog article says:
quote:
Minecraft.net is suffering some difficulties at the moment, with the database getting overloaded. We’re working hard on fixing the problem.

In the meantime, I’ve uploaded the new game launcher, which you can download from here once the servers are back up and running.

So... maybe the server crashed again and they reverted to the old version? :/

And grrrr:

For one, we decided we do want to add a food meter. You will be able to play without food if you want, but you won't be as cool if you do.

No! :@ People don't like being forced to eat food in games!

I thought he said he would only add fun things. :(

Still, at least it'll be configurable... just so long as it doesn't required going into peaceful.
