More RAM, need 64bit Windows to access it.

It was meant to speed things up :(

And yeah - I updated all the drivers and it made no difference.

Can you run MemTest86+ to check that the RAM is ok?

(maybe you got a dodgy stick?)

I ran the Windows 7 memory test thing from the install disk and that came up OK.

I wouldn't trust the Microsoft one, but that might just be unfounded paranoia.

Can you sacrifice two of your best sheep to Minerva?

Actually, Pete may have a point. After all, you did have to remove one of the ram sticks to get Windows installed in the first place. Perhaps that one is a bit iffy?

Had to remove all but one of them.

Strangely, though, it's now installing happily with all my hardware connected :|

so, once again, re-seat the RAM seems to have done the trick? ;)

If anyone's arround and want's to have a try feel free. I'm still installing Windows Updates so will be restarting in about 10-20 minutes, but everything else is good to go I think.

First impressions from my Laptop are looking promising.

Very tempting, but can't risk sleeping in tomorrow. :(

Maybe if I end up waking myself too soon I'll have a quick wander in the morning instead. (If it'll be online then?)

Night night.

All looking good now. Going to finish installing Windows Updates and then it's good to go.

According to Jon it's running as fast as singleplayer :D

Right, it is back up and up for good*.

I've just had a quick blast from the PC itself, so obviously no network lag at all, but by fuck it's nice and fast and smooth :D

The Server is now running from a RAM Disk, and has 3GB of RAM to play with on top of that.

I have turned off auto-heal and turned on monsters, but they don't seem to be turning up. Just wandered around int he dark for a night and didn't find any, so perhaps i need to play with that some more tomorrow. But if you find any monsters let me know.

Finally, I've never played Minecraft on a proper PC before, only ever on the laptop. Big screen + fancy graphics + furthest view distance is like playing a completely different game :D
