Right, had a fiddle.

Can some people try it while I brave the gales and nip round to the chinese take away?

Yeah. Still slow, unfortunately.

What a ball ache. And my Singapore noodles aren't ready yet.

it's almost like it's being backed up, /all the time/

I dig a block, it comes back, I dig it again, after maybe 3 or 4 goes it stays gone

picking up the resulting small block takes maybe 10 - 20 seconds

Same for me, takes ages to connect then blocks take a good 20 seconds to appear (as pickupable) after I mine them.

Which, maybe interestingly, was how it was when you very first started hosting a server.

Yeah, that got me thiknking and was the basis of the fiddles I did before I went out.

:(

It's odd is this.

Any clue whether it's a cpu/ram thing or a network thing?
From: koswix 4 Feb 2011 00:28

I think it's one of the following:

Network (i've updated all drivers, checked cables, rebooted router etc.)

Hard drive (i've updated drivers, defragged, turned off real time scanning in AV etc.)

A creeper in the code has blown up.

I'm going to launch a new world and see what happens.

(hug)

In case it's not obvious: I really appreciate the effort you're putting into all this. It's a wicked server and I've had a lot of fun on there. Thank you.

He's not the only one, by the way. We all appreciate it. Even the ones who just bang on about maps.

Just thinking, Virgin haven't decided you're using too much bandwidth and have capped you have they? Just could be coincidental with the server upgrade.

Did you try running the world as a singleplayer map?
From: koswix 4 Feb 2011 01:00
To: PNCOOL 396 of 3934
Possible, but unlikey. But anyway, I was getting shitty performance from it too and I'm on the same LAN.

I don't know if/how you can do that :|

I tried a new map, and I tried it with my old router (so no online access as the new one is router and modem built in) to rule out that too, and it was the same.

I have /no/ idea, so I'm choosing to assume something went wank during the install. I am currently nuking it and reloading Windows (fail)

Oh, I just replied to this in the other thread. :$

What was it that prompted the re-install in the first place? Is there different hardware?

Do you have correct drivers for everything?
From: koswix 4 Feb 2011 01:11
To: Peter (BOUGHTONP) 399 of 3934

More RAM, need 64bit Windows to access it.

It was meant to speed things up :(

And yeah - I updated all the drivers and it made no difference.
