That's only on one SD card.  I have two more that have other OS's on it!

You want more challenge? Let's try this. Yes it's a mod but it's nicely subtle and purposeful, not just adding stuff for the sake of it.

I agree that the combat is not deep or interesting enough to carry a combat-focused game, but at the same time playing on peaceful has begun to feel sort of meaningless to me.

Fuck mods.

And aye, understand that.

I thought the main part of your argument against console gaming was that PCs encourage creativity. Surely modding is the epitomy of that?

Either way, watch those videos because they're funny but also because I'd quite like to do something like that. There's also a lot of videos of them playing PvP with that mod, Battle Royale style, which is even more interesting.

It is aye. I like mods existing. I've just never used an amateur-made mod that wasn't shit.

(with a few exceptions)

I shall watch those vids. After MARS.

Why don't you like mods? (most of them being shit isn't a reason - most of everything is shit).

Because they're mostly shit. But more than that I suppose I subscribe to the myth of the author (or don't, rather). I want the authoritative version. A designer has designed a thing and I want to experience that thing as they intended.

I feel a kind of purity in doing that that's lost when modding.

Also, if after doing that I decide I want to tweak things a bit, it's very very rare that someone has wanted to tweak it in the exact same/correct way.

the only minecraft mod I approve of is called "timbermod"

basically, it makes trees fall down when you chop the bottom out
which is how it should be - cos that's how trees work

WTF? By that logic, you should buy an Apple and only use Apple software. You're a nut job!

The only mod you approve of is a cheat mod? :/

No, it's specific to games. And I like that people /can/ tinker with them. I just don't want to use that. At least until I've played it vanilla.

I guess, but I don't see it as a cheat, trees should fall when you chop the trunk

You've played vanilla. Now play UHC with Oscar, Me, and whoever else.

Got no interest in playing MC at all.

A small warning.

Teh Mine Server will be down at some point for probably a few days in the next couple of weeks whilst I move and get internet setup at the new place.

Not sure how long internet housemoves and migrations take these days.

It's clearly cheating because it takes one axe chop to collect a whole tree!

Trees do not (and should not) explode into items when removing their base.
If it made tree logs act like sand/gravel and you still needed to chop each piece it'd only be slightly cheating.

And to call it the "only mod you approve" is just stupid, because there are plenty of mods that change gameplay without making it easier.
And indeed mods that make it significantly harder, which have the potential to make the game even more interesting.

How do you feel about patches? They can enhance/add to gameplay and aren't necessarily written by the original author.

I generally agree, especially with the author intent thing, but I think it's fine to enjoy mods as long you don't try to make them replace the core game. I've been playing with the Technic pack and it feels very different. It's just nice to do something new when I'm a bit bored, but I still jump back onto my vanilla games when I feel like it.

Ultra hardcore is interesting though, I don't even really think of it as a mod although it technically is, obviously. If you haven't checked the videos yet, what it does is stop your health from replenishing automatically. The only way to heal is either a golden apple (which now requires gold ingots instead of nuggets) or health potions (which uses a glistering melon, which now requires a gold block instead of a gold nugget). They did two series of it where they attempt to kill the Ender Dragon, then 5+ series where they had 8+ people doing free-for-all or team PvP, Battle Royale style. It's really interesting how you have to play so much differently in those situations, and a lot of the people who do it are very entertaining as well (they're all YouTube users so they all upload the footage of them playing).

Oh yeah I've got nothing against other people using mods. I love that they exist and that people can do that. It's just a personal thing.

Ultra hardcore does sound kinda appealing.

It'd also be nice to do that thing where we pass around a save file. i.e. play a world until we die and then pass that world on to the next person. I'd like to do that here.
