given a choice, I would rather have wheels and cogs than endermen and dragons

wtf? endermen are easy to kill, creepers are bastards

I wasn't referring to ease of killing (although I've not even got close enough to hit one yet; stupid bastards teleport too much), but Notch's intent in creating them.

I don't recall ever being killed by a Creeper, and only a couple of times (when I first started) did one ruin anything I've built.

Aye. I'd rather have lots more types of blocks which actually do stuff. More crafting options and stuff.

I don't mind them destroying stuff, cos I could turn them off if I wanted
I find they have a habit of sneaking up behind me, and have had a couple jump off cliffs to sky-bomb me!

I agree so hard with this it's like I am agreeing with steel! No idea what that means, but it sure sounded good in my brain.

I want it to be alchemy/legos. I want to be able to invent/discover things that no one else has by mixing different types of materials and crap. Not that I would, because I'm lazy and not very inventive, but that to me is what the game should have been. There are already enough rpg/monster games.

Without hostile mobs, Minecraft is Dull Dull Dull.

The RPG elements are meh, but having everything perfectly safe and un-dangerous just gets tedious.

Not if it were like, say that game where you can draw things into being. Scribblenaughts or some such.

If you were almost unlimited in the things you could mix/invent it wouldn't get boring. You'd try to be the first with electricity or indoor plumbing.

There is already an unlimited number of things I can mix in almost any programming language I choose.

If I want to do things visually, I can use Python and a 3D Graphics app to recreate everything Minecraft can do, and endless more.

The reason why I haven't done that is because the brief moments of fun would get bogged down with seemingly non-stop tedium.

And the end result wouldn't even have any actual use in the outside world, other than an illusionary inflation of ego.

Um, there is no use to what it does now to the outside world. There is no use to any game outside of the game as far as I can tell.

I'm just telling you what I'd wanted the game to be for me. Notch made what he wanted it to be.

There's some protein folding game where players are helping to cure cancer, or something, but it's painfully shit.

Some odd sections on the map now where the newly generated land looks like a glitch but actually isn't. I think I explored them areas a few weeks ago and it happened then. Probably a bug with Bukkit that was fixed long ago.

Here and here

There's a new ocean biome - maybe that's related to where the new terrain gen would have had open sea, but the existing stuff was already generated there, so when the new chunks got generated it basically caused the glitch cliff. So not a bukkit bug (unless they claim to deal with that).
