Teh Mine

My hope, and I think some other people's hope too, is that Ant will find a map editor and trim off the explored-but-unused areas of the map when the next update hits, so that we don't have huge treks to see the new stuff.

Certainly a possibility if the new stuff will be generated in new areas.

I think creative mode will spoil it for the people using it (although I can see it being useful for admins).
My tower wouldn't have been nearly as satisfying if I hadn't mined and smelted the cobblestone.
Admittedly I nickel some from Jon, but over 90% was self- obtained.

Yeah, full creative mode in multiplayer would be rubbish (and I certainly won't be enabling it). We have the choice to do it now and we did have unlimited whatever on the old server.

We now have a small but long underground system. Currently running..

code:
My House---Mainline

    |
    |---Jon's Underground Lava
    |
    |
    |---Caer's Lava---Mainline

Scribble it onto the minelines and I'll draw it up.

Here you go (in pink).

Might be worth checking what other lines have been built above ground since too.

Anyone want to add?

Gonna have to have a think about how to do that :Y

Maybe, maybe not.

I had huge fun helping making the Indoor Pool on the old server. I've had less fun thinking of stuff to make (and being beaten to it) and then having to grind to get everything I need.

The fact that it can be toggled on and off per-player makes it many times better than just having it enabled for the whole server.

I can toggle it on and off for any player right now.

Obviously it's not as easy as a full creative mode because you would still need to to do

/give [name] [item-id] [amount]

But still possible.

So, does it grant you access to any and every resource without having to mine/craft, with unlimited numbers or does it only give certain resources to build with like the web based game?

(can't watch the video 'til I get home :( )

Every resource unlimited by the looks of it.

Right - so you'd still have to craft/smelt stuff then - you wouldn't be able to hand yourself a load of tnt for example?

It gives you unlimited of everything - no crafting/smelting/etc needed.
From: ANT_THOMAS31 Aug 2011 15:23

No, I think it is literally everything. Whatever block is available I think you can use without crafting/smelting.

Blimey.

I want to build a castle out of TNT now! (bounce)

Were you ever on the old server?

No, I missed all that, coming late to the Minecraft party.

I quite like the grafting, as people've said it's a better sense of achievement when you complete something. (I'm only saying that now 'cos I'm not building anything, when I start work on whatever project I know I'm going to want to have everything I need to hand) It'd still be nice to be able to give myself a few diamonds every now and then rather than smelting another set of iron tools. I'm digging out Chris's hole (NJ) at the moment and while that's yielding a nice supply of iron and coal it's not giving me much else which is frustrating. I do like just digging though - it's kinda theraputic late at night.

You need to dig deep for diamonds, fairly close to bedrock, maybe do some strip mining. I've churned out quite a lot whilst doing the tunnels.

Diamonds are most likely to be found in layers 10-16 above bedrock. I think this video explains it well enough.
