Thanks - the floors are just experiments with light - there's no danger, other than getting lost when it gets absolutely pitch black.
The only danger is getting caught by the lava at the top, but I'm not cruel enough to make it a genuine death-trap (which would be easy to do, extend the timer by a short amount, and make the wooden door an iron one).
If you want though, pretend the door is an iron one, press the button, and don't move - you'll get the same effect!
Creative mode looks a lot like the free web-based version that I played and thought "What's all the fuss about?". I think that removes most of the fun of building stuff, it's pretty much one step away from a level editor.
The terrain looks really good though, rivers and ravines and stuff. I hope there's a way of making new areas on current servers generate like that. I quite like the idea of NPC villages and strongholds in solo/group survival but wouldn't really want them on a creative server like Teh.
I think creative mode will spoil it for the people using it (although I can see it being useful for admins).
My tower wouldn't have been nearly as satisfying if I hadn't mined and smelted the cobblestone.
Admittedly I nickel some from Jon, but over 90% was self- obtained.
My House---Mainline | | |---Jon's Underground Lava | | |---Caer's Lava---Mainline | | Radio's House
I can toggle it on and off for any player right now.
Obviously it's not as easy as a full creative mode because you would still need to to do
/give [name] [item-id] [amount]
But still possible.
