If anyone cares, from next Wednesday afternoon the upload speed available to the server will go up to 1.5Mbps, and in mid February that will incease to 5Mbps.
Also, in 41 minutes, if eBay is kind, the server might be getting a new 3Ghz processor (currently a 1.8@2.2).
All in all this should make teh mine a lot less laggy, and hopefully will allow for Mobs to be turned back on.
So nobody get bored of minecraft soon please :@
EDIT: Also, the lass at Virgin said "Bloody hell, what do you use your broadband for? You've already downloaded over 300 GB this month :O" :'D
They've already started throttling non-WWW traffic using deep packet inspection kit :|
And my response was "Oh, you know. iPlayer and stuffi'mnotadirtypornfiendhonest :(( "
wakeupbomb on the whitelist please
(giggle)
I got an (annoying*) email from Virgin saying I was getting upload speed upgraded. I've not really noticed any lag it's grand that server. Thanks for running it for us lad.
*" Whoosh! Uploads just got even faster" Shut up you big stupid pipe.
Yay! I better get some instructions.
It ran like shit on my laptop so I'm on my proper PC and it seems to be running alright.
yeah, the upgrade to upload speed thing is the first stage of the upgrade to 100MB, according to the lass at Virgin.
I'll be getting the new router thing from VM next week too (integrated modem and router, it's like having ADSL again!) so if that was being flaky (it probably was) then that'll fix that too.
And then my connection will be ready to go straight to the 100MB service (10MB upload :O ) as soon as it's available in Edinburgh. Hurrah!
Oh, and the lag was previously when monsters and animals were on. Not sure if the lag is CPU speed, bandwidth or both. Probably both.
