I've now seen people using red-stuff and torches to make logic gates - I guess pretty much anything can be built with enough time

Redstone.

And yeah, I do now remember someone was asking a while ago if a turing machine was possible, which I think it is - so with enough time, space, and resources anything can be emulated.

Of course, input and output methods are limited, and running anything complicated inside a game inside a Java VM inside an OS is not going to give the greatest performance.

But it's still cool how this "simple" stuff can allow such complexity.

Beta 1.2 is out.

quote:
New features:
* Note blocks (right click to tune, trigger to play)
* 15 wool dyes
* A new water dwelling mob
* New tree types
* Reeds magically turned into sugar canes. They still make paper.
* A bunch of new crafting recipes
* One secret useful block
* One secret pretty block
* Cake
* AND MOAR, probably. I forget!

Bugfixes:
* Paintings work in multiplayer
* Disconnecting while riding no longer keeps the player in the world
* A bunch more state is properly synched in multiplayer
* Fixed colors going weird on PowerPC
* Fixed a horrible chunk reload loop in singleplayer
* Fixed most lighting bugs in newly generated SMP maps
* Falling sand behaves better in SMP
* Fixed a few crash on load level bugs

Bastard!

I need to eat food, digest it, then go sleep. Preferably all achieved before 1am, so I can get enough sleep combined with being up at a decent time.

But I also want to go find the water mob, the new trees, and discover what the new recipes might be.

:(

I hate you Notch! :@

That's pretty damn cool :D

You might want to remove all the dirt/grass tiles round your crops to stop wildlife spawning and trampling them.

All this has reminded me "The Incredible Machine" I used to play in 1995. So I found the disc ( :Y ) and reinstalled it :-

I tried to make a random number generator using balls and ray guns, but I ran out of parts :(

Ahh, its the dirt tiles that make them spawn. I'll give if a stone floor later.

Yesterday I added a second floor made of glass with with more wheat beds. I harvest every few days and get like 64 wheat :$

Yeah took me a while to work out how the fuck the animals were getting into my farm.

I seem to always build my house as a bunch of raised islands connected by bridges. Which no doubt says something about my personality. That I am a dick perhaps. A dick surrounded by a cactus-wall.

I thought I'd kinda tired of this game for a while but I got lost in it again last night. I love exploring.

Anyone played it in 3D mode?

Wondering if it's worth getting some glasses off eBay....

Sounds fun, think I'll order some glasses then. They're only a couple of quid.

Just hope I can finish my new castle before they turn up :D

When can we have a Teh Mine? So far I have become an expert at tunneling rabbit holes through mountains. I'm going to have to build something soon....

You do realise that that was just a grasp for any excuse to show my half built castle, right?

Like that. :)

Although, maybe we should kick off another thread for people to post their current favourite Minecraft construction?

(not to kill this one, just to have a dedicated 'pictures' place for people that want to look)

Heh, that's a decent place to build a house. My Guest House is built into a hill just like that. And all the stone from hollowing it out has been rather helpful in building my castle.

And I know I don't need a reason to post pics, I was just trying to keep a semblance of flow to the thread :C
