With 1371 members it could get pretty messy.

Though, in reality, you'd probably only get a few dozen doing it.

Bullshit we have that many members!

We have less than 100 who regularly post.

How many of the 1371 are just Trig !? :D

At least 50% of that number will be people who came in to ask a BeeHive question and that's it. A fair few will be joke accounts made when people are bored and wanted the "newest member is..." bit to say something funny. I know i've been guilty of that sort of malarky myself a couple of times.

I reckon up to 1000 of that 1371 accounts could be safely deleted and nobody would notice.

Might free up a bit of space, an' all.

I'm in London on Tuesday, want a coffee?

I wonder if it's possible to use this somehow ?

since it already has the whole world, can easily add 'push-pins' anywhere, and is often better resolution than Google

Definitely - whereabouts are you hanging around? I'm working literally opposite Blackfriars, so it'd have to be either lunchtime or after work.

I might be up for doing this, if Matt gives it the nod for the start page or something. Remind me.

Wicked!

Matt I believe is happy to allow it on the start page.
Is it possible to link the gallery pictures to
that persons position on the map?

That would be reallly cool.

Aye. Well, google maps is all new and exciting to me, because I was never really able to use it before. I'll have a look. Might be possible to link to pics/websites/I dunno really. I'll have a good look at the API when I'm neither still fucking around with stuff or working.

Be nice if thumbnails of forum images loaded somewhere. maybe we'd have to tie it in with ... what's google's flickr thing called? Anyway, yeah, I'll have a look and get back to ye.

the maps at http://maps.live.com/ are much better resolution than Google

(oh, and the new ones on www.192.com are better again - by far)

Same maps on 192.com and local.live.com. Both are by getmapping.com.

192.com allows you to zoom in closer but doesn't appear to actually include higher resolution images, rather they're zooming the image in rather than telling you they don't have images at that zoom level.

At least that's what it looks like for where I live :)

on 192, the images of my house are the best I'vee seen yet, can almost make out what all the crap in the back garden is, we've dated them to about Oct'05 based on various things we can see - if we could be arsed we could get an exact date as there is a car in my sister's drive that is only there one day a year

I do agree the resolution is patchy at best, some villages around Swindon have the detailed 3D stuff that's normally only in cities

The 192 pictures of my home in Hull are the same as google. Much better pictures of nottingham though, even though they must be about 4 years old as there's still only the beginnings of a building site where the tram stop round the corner should be, and what looks like a bloody bomb site where my house should be.

Live used to have much better images of where I live than Google did. They were about 5 years old or more but you could zoom in pretty close.

But a few weeks ago Google updated their imagery for a large swathe of Northamptonshire and Leicestershire and now you can almost see in my bedroom window...well not quite but it is pretty good!

I don't know where else they updated but it might be worth re-checking places of interest.

I just checked Google to see what's new and find they must have taken the pics very early in the morning, the shadows are VERY long (just after sunrise I'd think) and you can see less now than in the older ones

That's unfortunate. The ones of here are on a lovely sunny day. Not sure what time but it must be somewhere between 9 and 5 'cause there are no cars on the drive.
