Domain squating

Oh. Bugger that. Just let it lapse, if we still have .co.uk, I say. I suppose we might lose one or two people who don't know the .co.uk URL, but, well, they can't be worth $200, can they?

Bastards.

Hmmm....

eNom is one of the most spam tolerant registrars and are considered by many in the anti-spam community to be the blackest of the blackhats.

Double-bastards.

So I guess we have to update all the sourceforge links to the co.uk one?

Heh, look what I just found:
http://www.aboutus.org/Tehforum.co.uk
WTF is that?

Put a sticky at the top of the general folder to get everyone to change to .co.uk and then let it lapse?

I've been using .co.uk for ages, so never would have noticed, I expect a lot of people are the same.

Might be worth sticking a thread in the backup forum as well, as that's where people are most likely to go if they think the forum has been taken over by some evil spam-loving company.

Yeah, I've been on .co.uk ever since .net spent about six months pointing at the wrong hosting.

My concern is that the Beehive documentation has references to tehforum.co.uk only. I'm changing all references on beehiveforum.net and in CVS as I write this so new releases will be okay but I can't as easily go about changing all the previous releases.

Which is annoying.

Maybe also put a big blinking marquee news release type thing on beehiveforum.net then?

(I assume that bf.net is also contained within the documentation?)

It's linked at the bottom of every thread.

...of an installed forum.

What I meant was the readme.txt and similar. Which has it right at the top. So hopefully anyone who goes to tehforum.co.uk because of the docs will also goto beehiveforum.net and see a message saying "evil people stole our .net, goto .co.uk" and all will be well.

Heh. If domain used once then free, squat! Is about as far as the thinking goes.

Before I forget to ask ...

Did you (or anyone actually) ever take ownership of tehforum.co.uk from LP? I'm sure he said something about it expiring in September.

Just y'know we need a domain. Well we tehnically don't because we have an IP address that we can access this place with but it would be nicer to have a domain :)

Oh yeah, that's been transfered to me, and is renewed until 2008-09-22. :)

Good good. Assuming you did, you alright paying for the renewal because I'm sure some of us would be able to stump up a few quid if needs be?

I don't mind paying, it's only £6/7 for two years.

Yes, it's 85.7 pence.

Just for you I will go look up the precise fee... which is £5.78 plus £1.01 VAT, making £6.79.
