well at least kick us off with some gem of wisdom to convince us that he is worthy of this great honour.

Always a good one, I think. Though he could be a bit of a burk on occasion.

quote:
What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.

is so obviously bollocks; and, worse than bollocks, is persuasive but untrue.

Well, what was Nietzsche referring to when he said, "That which doesn't destroy me, makes me stronger"? Was he referring to the physical, the mental, everything? He might have been deliberately vague on a specific point in his life. He may have never intended it to be applied universally. I have yet to read a commentary on it, and I'm still a Nietzsche newbie. Those are just my initial thoughts.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.

Nietzsche smeetchee.

I think we'd be better off with a daily Picasso quote.

A man once criticized Picasso for creating unrealistic art. Picasso asked him: "Can you show me some realistic art?" The man showed him a photograph of his wife. Picasso observed: "So your wife is two inches tall, two-dimensional, with no arms and no legs, and no color but only shades of grey."

Nietszche is fine if you know before you start that it leads nowhere.

How about a Wittgenstein quote section?

quote:
what can be said at all can be said clearly, and what we cannot talk about we must pass over in silence

quote:
If I cannot say a priori what elementary propositions there are, then the attempt to do so must lead to obvious nonsense.

quote:
he limits of my language mean the limits of my world.

quote:
The world of the happy is quite different from the world of the unhappy.

quote:
If we take eternity to mean not infinite temporal duration but timelessness, then eternal life belongs to those who live in the present.

quote:
There are, indeed, things that cannot be put into words. They make themselves manifest. They are what is mystical.

quote:
My aim is: to teach you to pass from a piece of disguised nonsense to something that is patent nonsense.

quote:
But if you say: "How am I to know what he means, when I see nothing but the signs he gives?" then I say: "How is he to know what he means, when he has nothing but the signs either?"

quote:
If someone asked us 'but is that true?' we might say 'yes' to him; and if he demanded grounds we might say 'I can't give you any grounds, but if you learn more you too will think the same.'

quote:
Man has to awaken to wonder— and so perhaps do peoples. Science is a way of sending him to sleep again.

Someone could write a MOTD applet to which we could all add quotes. That wouldn't end up getting abused.
