As the saying goes, all artists borrow, great artists steal. He certainly breathed life into a stodgy and formulaic industry, thus spawning a new wave of Lynchian templates to chew on. Fun has a bad rap in art-fag circles; you're supposed to suffer. Some of his story arcs veered into a weirdly victorian sentimentality, like he was dabbling in morality plays.
