Hi Folks,

Well thanks to the wonders of eBay my new Sony Portable Reader System (using new eInk technology) has arrived from accross the pond.

Have to say I'm not disappointed the clarity of the words on the screen are fantastic and you feel like you could read it for ages. Unlike my PDA type affairs where you end up with a headache or with the issue that you cant read them in bright daylight/sunlight.

The Mp3 player is a nice touch, being able to relax and listen to classical music whilst reading your book (having you headset pluged into your book) is very pleasent.

My only cripe comes from the Connect eBook store. It will only allow people with a credit card registered in the USA to buy books through it.
This kinda limits me to having to resort to oh ah Jim lad to get any books (not ideal in my eyes). Even books from other ebook stores wont work on the reader as Sony have decided to go propriety on their DRM.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I get around this issue without moving to Uncle Sams?

Ask a friendly US based forumite to make the purchase for you and you paypal them the money? Not an ideal long-term solution, natch, but it'l help you get started at least.

See, you should have been thinking "this wonderful eInk thing will need book data on it, and for anything involving buying data, DRM stuff potentially comes along, and for anything that might possibly involve DRM, one shouldn't go near Sony with a zillion-foot bargepole."

You are a star, looking at the software it looks like they do gift vouchers.

 

Therefore it might be easy to pay you a lump sum via paypal?

Yeah but then they dont come with all the formatting extras that comes through buying it through the store.
